The Avery County Jail project consisted of a three (3) primary story addition, and one small basement area to the existing two-story jail facility. The new addition adds elevator access to the new and existing areas. The new space houses a 60-bed inmate containment space, isolation cells, two (2) padded cells, and new dayroom pods with hollow metal inmate cells. The new facility has a full security electronic control system integrated into pneumatic locks. The new area also is home to the central communication and inmate monitoring area. Upon completion and licensure of the new addition, the existing 8,000 booking, intake, holding, and staff area is fully renovated. The renovations to this area include new security electronics, pneumatics, and cell areas integrated back into the new addition.
